Traveling the backroads... sorta

In spite of some claims, there are many things to be found and seen in the prairies. The South Saskatchewan plains offers appropriate land for many flowers that you can see when ripping down the highway. At least a few times each summer I try to make a point to wander around in ditches and check them out. I usually find other things to check out while I'm at it.

The town of Indian Head might not be a mecca of activity...

But once a year, it becomes home to the fictional town of "Mercy" - the setting of locally produced CBC tv program; Little Mosque on the Prairie. We saw the church and Mercy Mosque in a transitional state. I like that you can see the trees just on the other side of the main door.

The town of Qu'Appelle, not far from Indian Head, has some amazing flower gardens next to a campground. Not the sort of place you'd be likely to just stumble into without looking for it, but Mom and I had been before, and given all the rain we've had this year I figured it might be worth a trip back to see what the gardens offer. And they had a lot.

And while we sometimes have spectacular sunsets, we sometimes have sunsets that are beautiful in their simplicity and relative subtlety.

I hope you all have a chance to check out the province this summer! Enjoy! And as always; COMMENTS PLEASE!!! :)

  1. These are great Andrea! I really enjoyed the antlers...kind of a rustic, ghost town feeling to that photograph.

The sunsets are perfect and as always I love your 'macro' flowers. My Grandma Schneider, loved flowers and they always remind me of her!

  2. I love all of the above photos. Especially the flowers. And yes- there's a lot to Saskatchewan- you just have to look for it.

  3. There may be cool things in other places, but Saskatchewan looks like no other place. If I ever move, I'll probably have to make a point to come back and visit as often as possible (no plans at the moment though :) ).
